You know, Gail, as I read your thoughts, I see SO much of myself and the similar path that I think we all took on our journey through the radio industry. Getting started at small stations and then thinking of what it would be like to work at "the big stations". Then the feeling of accomplishment when you make it to a "rated" market and being in a "rated" time slot. The nervousness of waiting for the numbers to come back those first few books and the sense of a job well done when the numbers were good.
Also, that uncomfortable feeling as the industry began to change after 1996.

Now that Cumulus has unceremoniously dismissed all but 1 of the veteran air talents in this market (David Nolin got the axe 2 weeks ago) I'm wondering how long it will be before we see the return of the "mom and pop" stations?

OBVIOUSLY Cumulus is hurting with this economy. Their stock price, which we all know is the single most important thing to them, is in the toilet, so instead of IMPROVING their product and solidifying their position in the market, they choose to remove the flavor and sell it as "new and improved". Hopeing that the public won't notice or care.
I have news for them. The public HAS noticed and they DO care. It's not just Cumulus. Clear Channel is having the SAME problems.

How long before these companies can't afford to even operate all their properties and have to start unloading smaller (read Macon) markets? THIS will mark the return of Mom and Pop, and I cherish the thought of that.

Talent like yours doesn't stay dormant long Gail. You're voice is like smooth, warm chocolate. It's irresistable, and it's definately a gift from God. Not to mention you have the personality to make the whole package complete.
I've cherished your friendship for years and continue to only want the absolute best for you.
Hang in there honey.

Gail, I'm so proud of you. Keep learning and experiencing new things...and most of all...remember to share your knowledge with others...for that knowledge shall become/has become great wisdom.

Radio will come around again and when it does...you will be ready to shine once more.

Change is good!

Your depth of recalling the past is so soul deep!

Memories and choices are a double edge sword that can cut through the years to guide us in directions we never thought possible. It is so evident in your faith that regardless of choices God is still there for you. Hearing your heart recollections causes me to remember that life is not the destination but the journey. I am thankful for the Lord's providence!
